Music Nova Scotia

May 17th, 2010

I hope to continue to enjoy the support of the membership to continue to represent you on the Board of Music Nova Scotia.

I have included some more detail and links below:

My full biography is here and professional history here.

Education & Professional Development

Music Nova Scotia has the opportunity to lead the nation in the full roll out of the National Training Strategy on the Music Industry.  I will continue work to see the National Training Strategy full implemented in Nova Scotia over the next couple of years.

Specifics:

ECMA reform

The relationship between the ECMA and its Board, the ECMA and the MIAs, has evolved over 20 years.  No one back in the 1980s could see how the MIAs would grow, nor could anyone foresee the changes in the industry as a whole.

I believe that the ECMA requires significant changes in governance and mandate to bring it in line with the current realities in the region and globally, and advocate the ECMA become an Alliance of MIAs based on the WCMA model.

Specifics:

Cape Breton

MNS must establish an office in Cape Breton, to provide our services to the great many musicians in that part of the Province who cannot easily access our Halifax office.

Finally, as MNS gets bigger it is important that we stay true to our roots as a member organization.  Our goal must always be to grow the industry.

Specifics:

  • office in Cape Breton
  • NSMW in Sydney in 2011 or 2012
  • increase membership, programming, and number of Board members from Cape Breton
  • affiliation with CBMIC
