IMHO, this is excellent news, and I hope Stoffer decides to run.

Stoffer: Bigger picture vision.
Kelly: No discernible vision.

Stoffer: Leadership and collaboration skills.
Kelly: Neither.

Stoffer: Contacts, influence and profile at the federal table.
Kelly: A history of failure with respect to national influence.

Nothing, IMO, could be better for Halifax than a mayor like Stoffer in office.

I totally support this.  As someone who does not live in his riding, I have called or emailed him 4-5 times over the last decade about federal issues, usually military related issues, and always supporting his position, which was supportive of the CF.

He. Always. Called. Back.

Peter has always returned phone calls, for a short note, quickly, to thank you and comment on what you said.  Every time.

He is a good guy and his years in Ottawa would give him insight into how to get the money Peter Kelly's HRM council keeps being denied.

He won't run, he basicly already ruled it out, saying he plans to run in the next federal election.  He just did not want to say no.

The next federal election could be tomorrow.  The municipal is not until October 2012.  I think this could still happen.

I do as well. Reading between the lines, the article really serves as proof positive that he wants to run. It's a deliberate tactic, to test the waters and see what the reaction is. If he wasn't interested, he'd be using the media to shut the rumour mill down, not to fire it up.
