About The Site
This is my personal website. It is variously:
- my outlet for my thoughts, frustrations, concerns and ideas about the politics and bureaucracy of Halifax and Nova Scotia
- an advertisement for my consulting practice,
- a blog, a testbed for ideas and editorials, and;
- an opportunity for me to experiment with web design.
I had no real intention of develop a website. I registered wayemason.com because it was available and I feel everyone should own their own name URL if possible! I registered halifaxpolitics.ca because it seemed like a good investment of $12.00. The original intention here was to re-learn basic web coding and teach myself how to do some PHP and play with wordpress. Now I have completed that and I am playing around with other new plug ins. I enjoy learning new things.
I am now a bit of a wordpress geek. Sites I maintain include:
The site runs on Varial Technologies. Varial, formerly DIY Hosting, was realized in June of 2003 by Ryan Smith, editor and administrator of the popular Threeohsix.org web community and online music magazine. Being closely knit to the independent music scene in Canada, web hosting became a natural fit for Ryan, and he makes a perfect host for me!
The site itself is put together using WordPress 2.9.X, the simply wicked and wonderful blog software and CMS.
I use the following WordPress plug ins:
- AddToAny: Share/Bookmark/Email Button
- Akismet
- All in One SEO Pack
- Defensio Anti-Spam
- FeedBurner FeedSmith
- Google XML Sitemaps
- Last.fm for WordPress
- OpenID
- Picasa Widget
- Twitter for WordPress
- XML Google Maps
I may get this to work some point in the future:
- SMF integration – want to make commenters on WP and registered forum members the same.
- Gravitar/OpenID – I don’t think this works properly yet.
