I am an independent business consultant, with expertise in developing and implementing business and strategic plans, marketing plans, and applications for financing and government investment, as well as providing management assistance and advice. I can lead stakeholder driven processes, give inspirational speeches, and facilitate change.
I also have additional skills as diverse as how to throw a good live event, get sponsors to invest in punk rock shows, and convincing government to invest and support not for profit organizations.
CURRENT PROJECTS:
Halifax Pop Explosion Association – I am the Executive Director of Canada’s most respected new music festival, my passionate part time job since January 2001. In 2009, the festival was voted “Best Event” by the membership of Music Nova Scotia for the 2nd year in a row, was voted Best Music Festival as voted by Coast readers for the ninth consecutive year, and was nominated for an East Coast Music Award for Best Event.
RECENT PROJECTS:
Music Sectory Strategy 2007 - Contracted to survey membership, literature and best practices, and then in consultation with a committee of Music Nova Scotia (the provincial industry association) wrote the updated Music Sector Strategy. The Strategy has been presented to government, and will be the basis for action for Music Nova Scotia for the next five years.
Ticketpro Canada – Engaged as Atlantic Business Manager in August 2006 by this multinational entertainment ticketing company to create and execute a business plan for entry into the Atlantic Canadian market. Responsibilities include securing exclusive supplier contracts with venues region wide, establishing retail point-of-sale, client relations, and sales and technical support.
Sponsorship Coordination – Acted as the Marketing & Sponsorship Director, organizing advertising and sponsorship for Rogers Flip the Switch, a new summer festival.
Production Manager – Contracted as production manager of several large outdoor events and live other concerts, including recent shows by Broken Social Scene, Wilco and Flip the Switch.
Writer and Editor – Working as writer, editor, contributor to various government reports for other consultancies.
Gigantic Entertainment Incorporated – Gigantic was established in September of 2004 as a local event marketing company. I was engaged to author a business plan, register Gigantic with with the Department of Finance for the NS Equity Tax Credit, and assist, on a contract basis, with the management and operations.
DRUM! Live Inc. – Engaged in April 2005 as Business Development Manager for DRUM!, a musical theatrical spectacle. I revised the DRUM! business plan, and was a part of a team that was successful in obtaining $275,000 in Federal and Provincial government funding in 2004/05, and a three year, $1 million dollar investment starting 2006.
