I would love to write a couple of long analysis pieces about the WTCC2 debate but my doctor told me not to use my right hand as I have mild cubital tunnel syndrome, a nerve pinch repetitive stress injury thing.  Monday I can type two handed again.  Sorry for the delay!

    I listened to the last part of the interview on CBC radio yesterday. Maybe I missed something important in the first part, but it seems to me the panel was pretty unbalanced. I agreed to a certain extent with your point that there are a number of different issues being debated all at once, and that they should be separated. I find, though, that there is an overwhelming lack of understanding in the general public (including yourself) about the economic function that convention centres perform. Since you’ve openly stated that you don’t ‘believe in’ economic impact (as if economic impact were something akin to the Easter Bunny), it’s not overly surprising to me. I just think it’s unfortunate that people who don’t understand/’believe in’ economic impact are being held up as ‘experts’ by media outlets, and therefore are perpetuating ignorance in the general public as well.

      I don’t believe in the validity of the underlying data as it is provided exclusively by the WTCC organization. $100s of thousands of consultants reports that both have no primary research and ignore peer reviewed data that shows a downward trend in convention attendance.

      I understand the reports, which is WHY i am skeptical.

    I’m not sure if I read your comment correctly – I hope you’re not suggesting that anyone who is SUPPORTIVE of a new WTCC doesn’t understand the reports. I understand the reports quite well, which is why I also understand that the downward trend in convention business is primarily in larger cities, and that the reports make it quite clear that there is a unique opportunity for Halifax as a niche destination – IF we have the right type of facilities, which we do not right now.
